FAQs
Northwest Community Acupuncture
Does acupuncture hurt?
For some people the insertion of needles is painless, and for others it feels like a mosquito bite, and for others its more painful. The discomfort typically does not last though.
How does acupuncture work?
The needles relax the brain and body so that healing can occur by stimulating our body's own opioid-like chemicals.
Are the needles reused?
No, the needles are single use and disposable. They are disposed of immediately after removal.
How many treatments will I need?
Treatment quantity is very much dependent upon your body's response to the treatment. So, the only way to know the answer to this question is to proceed with treatment, and follow the advice of your provider.
How frequently do I need to be treated?
At the beginning of a course of treatment, patients usually need to be treated 1 to 3 times per week. The treatments build upon each other. The body's natural tendency is towards what its used to. Acupuncture interrupts this cycle and repeated treatments help the body to maintain relief. Treatment frequency is high in the beginning of a course of treatment, and then tapers off to maintenance treatments as time passes.
